As we can all see this forum is essentially dead. I don't feel too bad about it by the fact that this seems to be happening to lots of forums across the 'net. It's just not a popular medium any more.

The community still exists, thankfully. We've got a group on Facebook, many of us communicate via Twitter, Steam, etc. but this forum seems like it's had its day.
However that doesn't mean WD is going away, it's more a case of I'm trying to figure out what use to put the WoodenDice.org domain to that satisfies as many of the community as possible whilst also letting us reinvent ourselves.

The thing being that if you search for "wooden dice" (without quotes) on Google, we're usually the first result. That's rather handy, don't you reckon?

I still want to create a podcast but I'm struggling to get the people together for it right now. Furthermore my state of mind is rather fractured at the time of writing which is really putting a damper on my creativity. I can feel the edges of ideas but it's like trying to catch smoke in my hands. So I ask you chaps and chapeses, have you any ideas?

I think I just added you to it. I'm bad with names though, so send me a message on there if I haven't added you.

Yeah, it's also a shame to see this forum die. Also had good memories on here. Like I could get things off my chest confidently.

As for coming up with ideas, it was never my strong point really. Sorry........

I'm not taking the forum down at the moment. Even if I do rebuild the site it's totally feasible to keep the forum. It's just a matter of what to do with the main domain in general.

As a means of keeping the community talking in a more central way, a medium I've always favoured whenever available is definitely IRC and it has minimal setup time, costs and moderation is simple. Clients are free on any OS and available on most smart-phones as well.

Real time chat allows you to immediately voice an idea in the same manner as social media but to a room where the people are there for that particular interest. It eliminates the screaming into the dark nature of Twitter and the requirement of getting everyone onto Facebook and in one place to talk about something or anything that interests the group as a whole. Let's face it, Facebook notifications are often more a cause for "Oh balls, what spam is this now?" rather than one of intrigue any more.

That's my two cents. I've been an IRC user since I was 13 years old and I've known many great people via it so its definitely my favourite.

For the website, hardcore pornography. That's all I've got so far.

Yeah, I like the sound of that. Although I have to admit, we should all at least be connected with each other via Facebook/Twitter, as a basis really. But that's just me to be honest........

I fear I can't give any technical advice but I hope there's a way to salvage the files that we have posted here. There are, for instance, songs that I've written that are to be found nowhere else in the world (not even on my hard drives) except on this forum...

I think perhaps until we find a new host or medium or whatever, facebook should be able to serve admirably enough. It's because of facebook that I came straight to this topic. Of course I realise that in the long run, facebook is probably not what Ben is looking for.

We won't lose any files. Hell, I've even backed things up in their totality when I moved us to a new server at the end of last year. This is more a question of addition than removal, although the forum would get sidelined (but you'd all know where to find it, worry ye not).

What I'm really asking, I suppose, is if anyone has any cool project ideas that they'd want to utilise Wooden Dice's resources for. That offer has of course always been on the table but I think most of you didn't really realise it, hehe.

HARDCORE POR... errr... I mean, I don't have any ideas about what can be done with this place.

Most of my community stuff happens on the Playstation forums and now that I have a Vita my soul has no chance of being saved... heh.

As with all forums they will eventually die, slowly become inactive or the users will have been forcibly replaced by others. To me this forum seems more inactive. I'll probably visit once every month or two just to browse any topics I might find interesting.
But Ben is right that forums are not popular - too old fashioned, it is kinda sorta so last decade.
Still, need to find a permanent home I reckon.

It's a shame this place is dead. While my time on here was brief, it was enjoyable.

I wish you guys all the best in whatever you choose to pursue.
